What are the types of electronic signatures?

The Autenti platform supports three types of electronic signatures. They differ in their identity verification process, level of security, and legal effects.

Autenti E-signature

This is the simplest and fastest way to sign a document online. It corresponds to the documentary form under Polish civil law (Art. 77² of the Civil Code).

  • Suitable for: Over 90% of everyday commercial documents (e.g., B2B contracts, acceptance protocols, declarations).
  • How it works: Verification is performed via access to an email address or an SMS code.

Advanced Electronic Signature (AES)

An advanced signature offers a higher level of security, designed for entering into remote agreements with clear identity confirmation of the signatory.

  • Suitable for:
    • Cooperation agreements
    • Contracts for the sale of movable property
    • Many other agreements that do not legally require a written form under pain of nullity
  • How it works: Signed using verification data that the signatory can, with a high degree of confidence, keep under their sole control.

Qualified Electronic Signature (QES)

The most advanced type of signature. Under the law, it carries the exact same legal weight as a handwritten signature (written form).

  • Suitable for: Documents that strictly require written form under pain of nullity, such as:
    • Employment contracts and termination notices
    • Contracts for specific work with copyright assignment
    • Non-compete agreements
    • Commercial or residential lease agreements
    • Settlement agreements
    • Agency agreements
  • How it works: Requires a qualified certificate. The identity verification method depends on the chosen signature provider and can be completed entirely online (e.g., via electronic banking, video verification, or supported identity apps).
