How to Open a Signed ZIP Document?

Some organizations protect signed documents with an SMS password. The secured ZIP file is sent as an email attachment to all recipients.

How to open a ZIP file step by step

  1. Download the ZIP attachment from the email to your device.
  2. Extract the archive using a dedicated application (such as 7-Zip or another ZIP extraction tool).
  3. Enter the password received via SMS on your mobile phone.
  4. Done! The extracted PDF document is ready to view and will not require entering the password again.

Troubleshooting ZIP file issues

  • Default Windows or macOS utility fails to open the file
    Built-in system tools may not support password-protected ZIP archives. Install a dedicated extraction software (e.g., 7-Zip) and try again.
  • When is the SMS password delivered?
    The SMS password is sent automatically at the exact same time as the email containing the attachment. The password is reusable for future extractions.
  • What if the phone number used for the SMS was incorrect?
